North Coast Unit
WE are the Ladies of Glamourama
The North Coast Unit has been in existence for more than 18 years and is comprised of women from the north coastal communities of San Diego County with a common interest in serving and helping children at their most vulnerable time of need. We are a fun, enthusiastic, and intelligent group of women with a shared goal to ensure that Rady Children’s Hospital continues to be one of the finest medical facilities in the country.
The monies raised through our events go directly to the designated department of our choice and make a tangible difference.
Our Designation of Funds for 2011-2012 will benefit the Helen Bernardy Center for Medically Fragile Children, which is the only skilled nursing and sub-acute facility for children and adolescents in California – only one of two on the West Coast. The Bernardy Center is a non-profit institution, located on the campus of Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, dedicated to providing the best long-term care possible for our most medically fragile and profoundly disabled children. The Sub-acute unit is designed for technology dependent children who require either mechanical ventilation to breathe, have a tracheotomy and/or multiple clinical problems requiring twenty-four hour care by a Registered Nurse. Skilled Nursing is for our medically complex children with significant developmental delays and physical limitations. Children in this unit attend special education programs daily, recreation/leisure activities, and receive preventative clinical services to enhance each child’s quality of life. A child may be placed in any of these units for a long term 3-6 years, short stay 6-12 months, or respite stay of 7-10 days to support families with medically complex children living at home.
Meetings for the North Coast Unit are conducted on the 3rd Wednesday of every month to discuss hospital and unit issues, as well as planning for our fund-raising events. We welcome visitors who may be interested in learning more about our unit and how to make a difference in the life of a child.
